b. 1949

Born and raised in New York, David A. Harris is an American Jewish communal leader and prolific author. As executive director of the American Jewish Committee since 1990, he is an advocate for world Jewry, known for combating antisemitism, defending Israel, and promoting interfaith dialogue.

Ruth Messinger

b. 1940

Born and raised in New York, Ruth Messinger is a political and humanitarian activist who serves as president of the American Jewish World Service. In 1997, she became the first woman to secure the Democratic Party’s nomination for mayor of New York City. She has consistently been named by Forward as one of the 50 most influential Jews of the year.
