The Only Corner illustrates Yaker’s ability to depict nature in its varied beauty and to express cultural meaning in his work. The same year he exhibited this painting, Yaker showed a series of works that focused on plants and associated them with his particular vantage point. Works were given engaging captions (e.g. Fair Judgments, No Witness, Forbidden Sighs) that encouraged the viewer to create personal interpretations of the paintings. Similarly, Yaker’s concern with Jewish themes integrated nature in an uncommon manner in, for example, an exhibition of his work titled Having Trouble to Pray, 2002, which brought together the two different worlds.
