Ehud Manor

1941–2005

Ehud Manor was a popular Israeli songwriter, the pioneer of a sensitive, personal style that verged on the confessional. At a time when most Israeli lyricists sang odes to country and land, Manor sang of love and loss, joy and grief, life’s grand pleasures and acute disappointments. His talent, however, flowed in multiple directions; after his army service, he balanced songwriting, broadcasting, advanced literary studies, and translation. Manor was born in Binyamina, and his greatest attachment was to Israel. He was prolific, with more than 630 translations and 1,200 original songs to his name. He received the Israel Prize in 1998.
