Jacob Neusner

1932–2016

Born in Hartford, Connecticut, Jacob Neusner was a prolific scholar of rabbinic Judaism as well as an editor, translator, and ordained rabbi. He translated both the Babylonian and Palestinian Talmuds. Neusner was a professor of history and theology of Judaism at Bard College. The recipient of numerous awards, he was the author of hundreds of books and articles, both scholarly and popular.
