Lawrence H. Schiffman

b. 1948

Dead Sea Scrolls scholar Lawrence H. Schiffman grew up in Great Neck, New York, and earned his doctorate at Brandeis University. He has served as the chair of New York University’s Skirball Department of Hebrew and Judaic Studies and as president of the Association for Jewish Studies. He is noted for his studies of late antiquity, the Talmud, and Jewish legal history and his role in securing the full publication of the Dead Sea Scrolls.
