Detective Comics, May 1939: The Amazing and Unique Adventures of the Batman, cover

Comic-book creators Milton “Bill” Finger and Bob Kane (born Robert Kahn) were cocreators of the characters Batman and Robin. Batman first appeared in DC Comics in May 1939 and remains an icon of American popular culture. Although Kane secured the copyright to Batman early on and was long credited as sole creator, Finger played a significant role in the creation and development of the series. Finger worked as a ghostwriter in Kane’s studio for many years, and while he never shared in the profits of the ever-growing Batman empire, he has in recent years been given due credit for his major contributions to the enterprise.
