Samuel ben Natronay

d. before 1175

Samuel ben Natronay was a German talmudist who was related by marriage to leading German figures, including Eliezer ben Nathan (1090–1170) and Joel ben Isaac ha-Levi of Bonn (d. ca. 1200). Samuel studied in the talmudic academy in Regensburg and lived in various German cities. His few surviving writings often appear cited in the works of later figures. Besides composing Tosafot (additions) and responsa, Samuel also wrote piyyutim (liturgical poems), an interest he shared with many of his contemporaries.
