All Past Deeds Are Shown

God of faithfulness and without falsehood; [He is just and upright] (Deuteronomy 32:4).

God of faithfulness—Just as evil ones receive recompense in the world to come even for the small transgressions that they committed, thus do righteous ones receive recompense in this world even for the small transgressions that they commit.

And without falsehood—Just as righteous ones are rewarded in the world to come even for the small commandments that they perform, thus are the evil ones rewarded in this world even for the small commandments that they perform.

He is just and upright—This teaches that at the time of a person’s departure to his eternal home, all his deeds are enumerated before him and say to him, “You did such and such, in such and such a place, on such and such a day,” and he says, “Yes.” And they say to him, “Sign!” and he signs it, as it is said: He shall sign with the hand of every person (Job 37:7). And not only that, but he also justifies the judgment upon himself and says to them, “You have judged me well,” in fulfillment of that which is said: That You may be justified in Your sentencing (Psalm 51:6).
