The Testament of Levi has been preserved by the church in Greek translation and was reworked considerably in the course of its transmission, but fragments of an Aramaic version found among the Dead Sea Scrolls at Qumran indicate that an earlier form of the text was read and preserved by the Qumran community, whether or not it originated there. In this passage, Levi, the ancestor of Aaron, has a vision in which he is dressed in the vestments of the priesthood and is told that he and his descendants will be priests.
