David’s Praise for Deliverance

Spoken by David After Receiving God’s Grace When He Delivered Him from the Lion and the Wolf and Those Two He Killed by His Hands.

1Praise the Lord, all you nations;
glorify him and bless his name;

2For he delivered the physical life of his elect one from the hands of death;
and he redeemed his holy one from destruction.

3And he saved me…

This apocryphal psalm is found only in the Syriac Peshitta. It likely predates 70 CE and may have been composed in the land of Israel. The author, in the voice of David, gives thanks for having been saved from death by devouring beasts and attributes his salvation to divine grace.
