Art Spiegelman

Born in Sweden to Polish Jewish parents, Art Spiegelman grew up in Queens, New York. As a cartoonist and author, he served as a staff contributor to the New Yorker from 1991 until 2003. Before publishing Maus, Spiegelman produced underground comics in the 1960s and 1970s. He is the recipient of a Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Critics Circle Award, and a Guggenheim Foundation fellowship.
