Aviva Uri

1922–1989

Israeli artist Aviva Uri began studying painting in her early twenties, working at the art studio of Moshe Castel in Tel Aviv. After a year studying under Castel, she continued her artistic development with David Hendler, a painter and draftsman who received his art education in Prague; in 1963, the two married. Uri’s primary medium was drawing: expressive, minimalist, abstract, and usually done on paper. She had a successful career, with numerous exhibitions of her work, including solo shows at the Tel Aviv Museum in 1957 and 1977, the Israel Museum in 1971, and Amsterdam’s Stedelijk Museum in 1984.
