Benedikt Ried
15th Century–16th Century
Benedikt Ried (also known as Reit, Rieth, and Riedl) was a German architect active in Bohemia in the late fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries. He was the leading medieval architect in Bohemia, credited with Vladislav Hall (1493–1515) in Prague Castle; St. Barbara's Church, Kutna Hora (ca. 1482); the Pinkas Synagogue (1535); and other buildings in late Gothic and early Renaissance style. There is little information about his life. He may have come to Prague from Pistov as a military engineer to rebuild the Prague Castle fortifications.
