Dolfi Trost
Dolfi Trost was a Romanian surrealist artist, poet, and theorist. Trost was a founder of the Bucharest Surrealist Group, a collective of artists who met in secret throughout World War II. He also created the surrealist drawing method known as “entopic graphomania.” In this technique, imperfections on a piece of paper are connected by lines to produce a geometric abstraction. In addition to creating visual artworks and poems informed by surrealist thought, Trost published several avant-garde works in collaboration with fellow group members, including the Jewish artists Paul Paun and Gherasim Luca. In 1948, Trost left Bucharest for Israel, later immigrating to the United States, where he settled in Chicago.
