Judah Ibn ‘Abbās

Judah ben Samuel Ibn ‘Abbās (Abū ’l-Baqā’ Yaḥyā ibn ‘Abbās al-Maghribī) was born in Fez. He spent some time in Baghdad, where he married a woman named Hannah, and at some point migrated to Aleppo, Syria. About twenty of his poems survive, and at least one is still recited on Rosh Hashanah in the Sephardic rite. Ibn Abbās’s son was the famed convert to Islam, Samaw’al al-Maghribī (d. 1175).
