Nathan Englander

Born and brought up in Long Island, New York, Nathan En glander is a novelist and short story writer. His For the Relief of Unbearable Urges portrays the confl icts of religiously observant Jews within the larger secular society. His short fi ction has appeared in the Atlantic Monthly, The New Yorker, and several anthologies. En glander has received numerous literary honors, including the PEN/Malamud Award, the Sue Kaufman Prize for First Fiction from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and the O. Henry Award.
