Steven Greenberg
Brought up in Columbus, Ohio, Steven Greenberg, who has used the pseudonym Yaakov Levado, is the first openly gay Orthodox rabbi. A writer, speaker, author, and activist in the Orthodox community, Greenberg is the author of Wrestling with God and Men: Homosexuality in the Jewish Tradition (2005) and was involved in the making of the award-winning film Trembling Before G-d. He was a senior teaching fellow at CLAL (The National Jewish Center for Learning and Leadership) and founded the Jerusalem Open House, an LGBTQ+ community center in Jerusalem. Greenberg is the founding director of Eshel, a support, education, and advocacy group for LGBTQ+ Orthodox Jews and their families.
