The Dutch architect Harry Elte was born in Amsterdam and studied with Hendrik Berlage. Elte built several synagogues and Jewish hospitals in the Netherlands. His synagogue in Jacob Obrechtplein in Amsterdam (known as the Rav Aron Schuster Synagogue) was built in the style of the Amsterdam school and influenced by the work of Frank Lloyd Wright. It was his most important building. During World War II, he was deported to Westerbork and then to Theresienstadt, where he died.
