This Hebrew version of Se‘adya Ga’on’s Judeo-Arabic Book of Beliefs and Opinions was composed about a hundred years before the well-known Hebrew translation by Judah Ibn Tibbon in 1186. It had a significant impact on later medieval Jewish thought, especially among the Hasidei Ashkenaz (German Pietists) and adherents of kabbalah. It is longer than Se‘adya’s original, which was already lengthy, and the anonymous translator at times significantly rewrote the original text.
