The Mishnah on Conflict between Priests

There was an incident in which two [priests] simultaneously ran up the ramp [to the altar in order to reach it first], and one pushed the other, who fell and broke his leg. When the court saw that they endangered themselves, they decreed that [from then on] they would only [determine who would] remove the ashes from the altar by lot. There were four lots [to determine which priests were to perform various tasks], and this [the lot to determine who would remove the ashes] was the first.
