Teaching according to the House of Elijah (Tanna de-be-Eliyahu), sometimes called The Order of Elijah (Seder Eliyahu), is a didactic work that, unlike other midrashic collections, has a unified set of concerns and a consistent style. It is premised on a talmudic story of the prophet Elijah teaching R. ‘Anan (b. Ketubbot 106a) and is primarily focused on ethical behavior and Torah study. This excerpt speaks of God’s love for Israel and urges Jews to maximize their opportunities to study and to share in communal burdens. An individual may increase his merit through the performance of good deeds and Torah study.
