What Is the Testament of Moses?

The Testament of Moses, also called the Assumption of Moses, was originally written in either Hebrew or Aramaic but survives only in a Latin translation made from a Greek translation of the original. A variety of dates have been proposed for the text, ranging from the second century BCE through the second century CE. The work takes the form of a speech by Moses to Joshua before his death, in which he relays secret knowledge of Israel’s future.
