About Posen Library
For over twenty years, the Posen Library of Jewish Culture and Civilization has been producing print and digital collections of primary sources (images as well as excerpts from texts translated from more than twenty languages). Experts in the field have curated these sources that represent a variety of voices from Jewish culture and history, from all over the world and from the biblical to the contemporary periods. We are also beginning to make free, easy-to-use educational tools available on our website. Through these resources, the Posen Library seeks to fulfill its mission to provide an inclusive, expansive view of Jewish culture and history and to be the first place instructors turn for teaching materials on these topics. Beginning in 2027, we will start to expand our user base to include broader audiences.
About the position
For various reasons, entries in the modern volumes were not prepared for print with the brief introductory texts that characterize entries in the project’s earlier volumes. We now seek an expert in modern Jewish history or culture to ensure that the digital version of the collection provides a consistent user experience and meets the needs of introductory-level learners and broad audiences. This position will therefore oversee the writing, commissioning, and editing of contextual material for the texts and images that comprise the modern content. In addition, given the thousands of entries in the Posen Library collection that span the 16th century to the early 21st century, this person will also create and manage consultants to produce dynamic educational content for the digital site drawing connections between and among the entries. This is an ideal position for a scholar with strong writing skills and a passion for developing digital projects and teaching materials. Candidates must also have demonstrated a commitment to Jewish history that includes a multiplicity of voices.
