Assi Dayan

1945–2014

Assi (Assaf) Dayan was one of three children of Israeli politician Moshe Dayan and his wife, Ruth (Schwartz) Dayan. He was born in Mandate Palestine and studied at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. An actor, writer, and director, Dayan achieved critical success for his television and film roles in Israel and the United States. He played the leading role in the Israeli television series Be-tipul, which was adapted in the United States as In Treatment. The film Life According to Agfa (1992), which he wrote and directed, won an honorable mention at the Berlin Film Festival in 1993. Dayan led a tumultuous life, struggling with addiction and related health problems. He was married four times and had four children.
