Isaac Maimon

1910–2005

Isaac Maimon was a prominent member of the Sephardic Jewish community in Seattle. Born in Adapazarı, Turkey, Maimon immigrated to Seattle with his family in 1924. His father, Abraham, became the rabbi at the Sephardic Bikur Holim Congregation, which was founded by Turkish immigrants in 1914, and Isaac and his brothers taught at the congregation’s Talmud Torah school. As an adult, Isaac owned and ran local grocery stores, first with his brother and then on his own. He also taught Ladino and lectured and wrote about Seattle’s Sephardic community, acting as community historian and archivist for the Bikur Holim Congregation. After retiring in 1979, he and his wife, Rachel, devoted themselves to community service work.
