The Bread, Oil, and Wine of Non-Jews
220–600
R. Aḥa bar Adda said in the name of R. Isaac: They [the sages] prohibited their [idolaters’] bread because of their [idolaters’] oil, and their oil due to their wine.
“Their bread because of their oil!” Why should their oil be a harsher matter than their bread? Rather, they restricted their bread and their oil because of their wine and their wine because of their daughters, and their daughters due to something else [davar aḥer], and something else because of something else.
