Moses Ḥazan of Thebes

10th or 11th Century

Moses Ḥazan ben Abraham of Thebes was a liturgical poet (paytan) who composed more than twenty seliḥot (penitential poems). In his poems, he mentions that he was a ḥazan and memuneh or syndic, a position of prominence within the Greek Jewish communities of the Balkan regions.
