What Is the Letter to the Hebrews?

The New Testament Letter to the Hebrews, traditionally called Paul’s Letter to the Hebrews, does not itself claim to be by Paul, and modern scholars consider it a later composition. Despite its traditional name, it has the form of a sermon rather than a letter and is not necessarily addressed to a Jewish audience; it was likely intended for both Jewish and gentile Jesus followers. Much of the work consists of allegorical interpretation of the Greek version of the Hebrew Bible (the Septuagint) to demonstrate the superiority of Christ to prior Jewish figures and institutions, including Temple worship and the priesthood.
