What Is the Second Book of Enoch?

The second book of Enoch was originally composed in Greek in the late first century CE but survives in its entirety only in Old Church Slavonic. Several fragments in Coptic have also been found. The narrative of 2 Enoch follows the life of the biblical Enoch (see Genesis 5:18–24), until the time of the flood. Its central themes are based largely on earlier Enochic material (see 1 Enoch), but it also includes new motifs, such as Enoch’s journey through the ten heavens.
