Albert Hackett

1900–1995

Born in New York to silent-film actress Florence Hackett, Albert Hackett played his first minor role on Broadway at the age of six in Lottie, the Poor Saleslady. Vaudeville and several other dramatic and comedic roles followed before he found his career footing writing for Broadway and Hollywood with his wife and partner Frances Goodrich. The stage production of The Diary of Anne Frank garnered the duo their greatest fame, resulting in two Tony Awards and the Pulitzer Prize for Best Drama. The play has gone on to be a stage classic, produced in multiple languages and venues over the past sixty years. Hackett and Goodrich’s successful partnership continued until the latter’s death.
