Midrashim of Redemption is a scholarly work about Jewish ideas of redemption. Yehuda Even-Shmuel collected Jewish texts written between the end of the talmudic period and the thirteenth century, focusing on themes such as the Messiah, the end of exile, and hope for Jewish spiritual renewal. He explains when and why these texts were written, helping readers see how Jewish hopes for redemption developed during difficult historical periods, including under Islamic rule. As a Zionist thinker, Even-Shmuel connected messianic themes with modern Jewish history, viewing the return of Jews to the Land of Israel as part of a long historical and spiritual process.
