Markah

4th Century
Markah, dubbed the “founder of wisdom,” was an esteemed Samaritan theologian and composer of Aramaic piyyut (liturgical poetry) active in the second half of the fourth century. He is best known for his compendium of theological and exegetical issues. Markah’s poetry still appears in the Samaritan rite, alongside compositions by his father, Amram Dare, and his son Naneh, the last poet to write in Samaritan Aramaic.
