Shimon Huberband is best known for documenting religious life in the Warsaw ghetto, but he also recorded jokes, sayings, and other forms of popular culture. These expressions helped Warsaw Jews cope with the hunger, fear, and daily hardships under Nazi rule. Later included in the book Kiddush Hashem, Huberband’s work shows that Jewish resistance was not only physical or religious, but also cultural—expressed through humor, shared traditions, and community support.
