Prayers for Yom Kippur
Morning
Who remembers the loving-kindness of the fathers and gave as a heritage to their children this Day of Atonement, for the sake of His name, with love. Remember us for life, merciful King, who desires life. Write us in the book of life before You, King, Savior, Shield. B[lessed are You, Lord,] Shield [of Abraham].
Who is like You, compassionate Father, who remembers His creatures with mercy, the King who gives life to all with dew. B[lessed are You, Lord,] who revives [the dead].
The Lord of hosts shall be exalted through judgment, and the holy God sanctifed through righteousness (Isaiah 5:16). B[lessed are You, Lord,] the holy King.
You chose us from all the nations; You loved us and favored us from all tongues. You sanctifed us throughYour commandments, and You drew us near, our King, to Your service, and You have called us by Your great, mighty, and awesome name. You have made known to us Your righteous laws, and You have taught us to perform the commandments of the statutes of Your will. And you have given us, Lord our God, the Day of Atonement, for forgiveness and pardon, to pardon on it all our iniquities, in memory of the Exodus from Egypt.
Our God, and the God of our fathers, we have sinned, we have acted perversely, and we have acted wickedly, we have transgressed, we have rebelled, we have turned away from Your commandments and from Your laws; we have not listened to Your voice, and it was to no avail. You are just in all that has befallen us, for You have acted with truth whereas we have done wickedly.
Our King, our God, pardon our iniquities on this day; wipe away our transgressions from before Your eyes, as it is stated: I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My sake; and I will not remember your sins (Isaiah 43:25); and it is written: I have blotted out, like a thick cloud, your transgressions, and your sins like a cloud; return to Me, for I have redeemed you (Isaiah 44:22); and it is written: For on this day atonement shall be made for you, to purify you; from all your sins you shall be purifed before the Lord (Leviticus 16:30). For You are the forgiver of Israel from everlasting, and the pardoner of the tribes of Jeshurun in each and every generation, and Your word is truth and lasting, and without You we have no king who pardons and forgives, but only You. B[lessed are You, Lord,] who pardons and forgives our iniquities, and the iniquities of Your people, the house of Israel; who makes our guilt pass away each and every year, b[lessed are You, Lord,] King of the entire earth, who sanctifes Israel and the Day of Atonement.
“Find favor”; the Blessing of Thanksgiving; “and inscribe for a good life all the children of Your covenant”; “in the book of life, blessing, peace, salvation, consolation, sustenance, and prosperity, may we and all Your people, the house of Israel, be remembered and written before You, for life, in mercy. B[lessed are You, Lord, the Ki]ng who makes peace.”
You know the secrets of the world, and the mysteries hidden inside every living being. You search all people’s inner chambers, viewing their conscience and hearts. There is not a thing concealed from You, and nothing hidden from Your eyes. May it be Your will, Lord our God, that You pardon us for all our iniquities, and atone for us for our sins. And for the sin that we sinned before You unwillingly; and for the sin that
we sinned before You in error; and for the sin that we sinned before You in secret; and for the sin that we sinned before You in the open; and for the sin for which we are liable to death; and for the sin for which we are liable to excision, death at the hands of heaven, excision at the hands of heaven; the death penalties: forty lashes, stoning, burning, beheading, and strangulation; positive commandments and negative commandments; whether they can be rectifed by a positive action or whether they cannot be rectifed by a positive action; whether they are revealed to us or whether they are not revealed to us. Those that are revealed to us, we have already declared them to You; and those which are not revealed to us, they are revealed before You, as it is stated: The secret matters belong to the Lord our God; but the revealed matters belong unto us and to our children forever, to perform all the words of this Torah (Deuteronomy 29:28). Forgiveness and pardon are before You. B[lessed are You, Lord], the God who forgives.

The Lord of hosts shall be exalted through judgment, and the holy God sanctifed through righteousness (Isaiah 5:16). B[lessed are You, Lord,] the holy King.
You chose us from all the nations; You loved us and favored us and raised us above all tongues. Our God, and the God of our fathers, due to our sins we were exiled from our land, and, distanced from our soil, we are unable to perform the rites of our obligatory ofering before You, in the great and holy House, upon which Your name is called, because of the hand that was stretched out.
