This Yiddish booklet was created in Poland during the Holocaust to inspire Jewish youth in the Warsaw ghetto. Compiled by resistance leaders from the Dror (Hebrew for “Freedom”) socialist Zionist youth movement, it gathers historical examples of Jewish suffering and resistance, from the time of the Crusades to the pogroms in tsarist Russia in the early twentieth century. The collection encourages readers to learn from the past and to resist oppression, including through self-defense.
