The death of the one deserving of Eden, my cherished brother, the wise, pious, God fearing, elder, Elisha ben Moses Joseph, [occurred] on the Sabbath day, Tishri 24, in the year 1510 [1198]. May his bed lie beneath the Tree of Life. [As] it is written: He shall come to peace; they who walk in uprightness shall have repose in their resting places (Isaiah 57:2).

This inscription, mostly in Hebrew but with some Judeo-Persian, appears on a tombstone found in a Jewish cemetery on a mountain called Kūh-i Kushkak, in a village, Djām, in central Afghanistan. Djām was located in a trading region along the Silk Road.
