Daniel’s Dream of the Four Beasts and the Son of Man

This apocalyptic vision, like “Nebuchadnezzar Dreams of Four Great Empires” (Daniel 2:31–45), divides history into the Babylonian, Median, Persian, and Greek empires, all of which will ultimately fail and be replaced by the kingdom of God. The vision culminates in a judgment scene (vv. 9–14), in which God, called “the Ancient of Days,” is surrounded by an impressive retinue, including a proto-messianic figure.
