Aaron Ibn al-‘Ammānī

A Jewish leader from Alexandria, Aaron Ibn al-‘Ammānī belonged to a reputable family of physicians and cantors. He is most famous for hosting Judah ha-Levi on the poet’s visit to Egypt, and ha-Levi describes Aaron’s sumptuous palace in his writing. Several of Aaron’s secular and liturgical poems survived in the Cairo Geniza.
