11th CenturyLittle is known about the life of Matsliaḥ ben Elijah outside of his close student-teacher relationship with Hayya Ga’on, mentioned in several sources, and some communications with Samuel ha-Nagid. Born in Sicily, Matsliaḥ would have had to travel to Baghdad to study with Hayya.
