This court document, in a mixture of Hebrew (italics) and Judeo-Arabic, records a claim made by Abū ’l-Faraj Jacob ibn ‘Allān against the Majjānī family of al- Mahdiyya, Tunisia. Both parties to this suit were successful traders, and presented their case before Ḥananel ben Ḥushiel, chief judge of Qayrawān, Tunisia, and author of many halakhic works. The document survives in a draft form, with many corrections and additions.
