The Greek translation of Esther is expanded with pietistic elements, including individual prayers for deliverance uttered by Mordecai and Esther (see also “Esther’s Prayer before Going to the King”). In pleading for God to spare the Jewish people, Mordecai points out that his refusal to bow down to Haman was not motivated by personal hubris but was rather for the sake of God’s glory.
