Rabbinic Acceptance of Wall Paintings and Mosaics

3:3

In the days of R. Yoḥanan, they started painting on walls, and he did not protest against it. [In the days of R. Abun, they started depicting with mosaics, and he did not protest against it.] [ . . . ]

4:1

Rav commanded the family of R. Aḥa, and R. Immi commanded his own family: If you go out on the fast day you should not incline normally [face down on the floor]. R. Jonah inclined on his side; R. Aḥa inclined on his side. R. Samuel said: I saw R. Abbahu inclining normally. R. Yosi said: I pointed out a difficulty before R. Abbahu: Is it not written, A maskit stone you shall not put up in your land to bow down on it (Leviticus 26:1)? Explain it if he fixed a place for it.
