This lengthy poem is written in the first person and was intended to be recited by an individual, not the community. The repeated references to prostration and bowing in this text were likely intended to instruct the worshiper to do so. (See “Instructions for Prostration during Prayer.”) In these excerpts, Judah describes how the heavenly beings, called “watchers” and “holy ones” from Daniel 4:10, praise God and notes that he, too, acknowledges God’s role in creating him. Other terms for the angels include “holy creatures” and “wheels” from Ezekiel 1, and shin’anim from Psalms 68:18.
